Feeding Communities, Sharing the Gospel
Recently, we partnered with Feed the Hunger and received 16 pallets—over 138,000 meal servings—for families in Acuña and surrounding communities. Collaborating with Marisa Faz and the International Food Bank of Acuña, teams turn these packs into hot meals. Four days a week, they deliver about 250 ready-to-eat meals to neighborhoods lacking electricity or cooking equipment.
Last month, we helped distribute meals and prayed with local leaders. As relationships grow, we are already planning how future mission teams can help with cooking, delivering, praying, and sharing the Gospel. We are excited to see how God will use this partnership to meet both physical and spiritual needs.
A Church Is Growing at Legado de Corazón
This spring marked the beginning of something incredibly special at Legado de Corazón—weekly Sunday evening church services officially began on Easter Sunday. Every Sunday at 5 PM, residents now gather together for worship, prayer, and Bible teaching as a new church community begins to take shape inside the shelter.
Shon has begun preaching verse by verse through the Gospel of John, while Janeene, Abdiel Zarate, and Austin Young lead worship each week. The services have quickly become one of the most joyful parts of ministry at the shelter. Residents sing loudly, clap freely, and worship with sincere hearts. One especially moving moment came when a blind resident sang worship songs entirely from memory—songs he had learned years ago in his faith journey but likely had not sung in a church setting for a very long time.
It has also been beautiful to watch residents like Marcos, who has mental disabilities, dance joyfully during worship music each Sunday evening. These services remind us that the Church is not a building but a gathered people worshiping Christ together. Please pray for wisdom as this church continues to grow and for the ongoing discipleship of the men and women at Legado de Corazón.
Building More Than Walls in Acuña
A team of 10 men from Temple Baptist Church traveled to Acuña to help construct a brand-new dining and multipurpose facility for Shalom Baptist Church, one of our church partners there. In just a few short days, the team worked hard to build a 1,500-square-foot structure complete with a kitchen that will serve the church and community for years to come.
What made this trip especially meaningful was the connection already shared between the churches through previous ministry relationships. The project went beyond construction—it was about strengthening partnerships and encouraging believers serving on both sides of the border. We are grateful for the hands that built and the hearts eager to serve.
Fish Tacos, Fellowship, and Changed Lives
In late spring, a team from Trinity Baptist Church spent several days serving alongside us in Acuña. One highlight of the trip came during a meal outreach at Legado de Corazón, where the team made fish tacos for 125 residents. It was the first time fish tacos had ever been served at the shelter—and they were an instant favorite!
More importantly, the team spent time praying, teaching, and sharing the Gospel with residents. Pastor Matt taught on the resurrection of Christ, while Coach Ben shared a devotional that led to several recommitments to Christ. By the end of the outreach, approximately eight people had made professions of faith. God continues to work powerfully through simple acts of service and faithful Gospel conversations.
For Día del Niño, we had about 100 children in Noblasi attend who played on bounce houses, cornhole, volleyball, and games with a parachute. Trinity Baptist Church from San Antonio helped us put together bags of candy and other prizes for the children, in addition to playing with them and sharing the gospel
New Team Members Joining the Mission
At the end of April, Levi and Rachel Grubbs visited Del Rio and Acuña to serve and explore a long-term missionary commitment to the ministry. During their visit, Levi taught at Legado de Corazón while the couple learned more about the day-to-day ministry opportunities in the region.
While they were here, Levi and Rachel officially received endorsement through the Compassion Ministry Catalyst missionary program with the North American Mission Board and Send Relief. We are excited about them joining us this summer to serve alongside Young Living Stones.
Please pray for wisdom, provision, and a smooth transition as they prepare for this upcoming chapter of ministry.
