Throughout the years we have had many talented and capable team members who have been busy building a small bunkhouse on our property. It’s still got some final touches to be made, but recently we have already been able to open our doors to a couple of gentlemen in need! It has been a huge blessing to see this project through, and God is already bearing fruit in the labor that so many have poured into this place.
Last week, we met a young man who emigrated from Nicaragua. This 18 year old was unlike many of the migrants we’ve encountered at VVBHC, he was incredibly frightened because he had been separated from his family by Border Patrol (he is considered a single man because he is “of age”). His mother, father, and younger brother were released in Laredo while he was released here in Del Rio. It was the first time on his long journey that he was alone, in a new country where he couldn’t understand much of what was being said around him, and he had no money. We were able to offer him a night in our bunkhouse while we coordinated a reunion with his family in San Antonio. This brought so much relief, just to know that he had a place to rest that evening.
Another man we met came from Austin, he travels to Del Rio for some volunteer work often and we offered the bunkhouse for the night. As we shared our ministry with him, he was eager to go over with us into Mexico to see first hand how we were impacting people on both sides of the border and to discover how he can help.
We want to give a special thank you to all the folks who have poured countless hours of hard work into the bunkhouse. It’s been a labor of love for many, without much recognition. As we’ve already seen, this little bunk area will serve those in need in a great way. We so appreciate your continued prayers and support as God uses all of these things, great and small, for His glory among the nations.
